November is National Novel Writers Month

National Novel Writers Month, or nanowrimo, is the month of November.

Here at JWL we would love to say we were going to have organized days for people to come and "write-in" together. Unfortunately we do not want to put anybody at risk with the pandemic.

However! We do have a selection of resources at the library that you can check out. These resources can help any writer, not just those doing Nano. Make sure to check them out when you stop by.

We also have a Facebook group for those that would like to join there.  The group is simply to connect writers to each other. We encourage getting to know each other. We hope to be able to organize some writing activities in the group as well. We can always go for some writing sprints, right?

For more information about what NaNoWriMo is, visit their website www.nanowrimo.org

November Events at JWL

Events for November 2019

In November we are celebrating National Novel Writers Month. You can find more information about NaNoWriMo at nanowrimo.org and the Young Writers Program at ywp.nanowrimo.org

The Jennie Woodworth Library has a classroom set up on the ywp.nanowrimo.org website for our younger writers that want to participate. If you stop by in October, we can give you the information for the Young Writers Program group.

The entire month of November, the library will be a Come Write In location for NaNoWriMo. We do have a few meetups also set up, be sure to check out our events list on Facebook.

But wait! That's not all. On November 20th we will have a story and craft time at 10:30 am. Make sure to mark your calendars!

The library will be closed on Veteran's Day, November 11th and also for Thanksgiving on November 28th and 29th.

Are you ready for NaNoWriMo?

We are getting ready!

It is perhaps the adrenaline, but the idea of writing a novel in 30 days is exhilarating. Completely understandable that not everybody has the same feelings. We can't all be wired this way.

BUT, for those of us that do enjoy writing and want to take on the challenge...

The Jennie Woodworth Library is hosting a few meetups. These meetups are geared to those that are interested in writing. There is no age limit and no category limit on the writing. (Yes, I understand it is called National Novel Writing Month, but if you want to write a biography, by all means, write it!)

We will have writing sprints and word wars and more!

Essentially we will be a support group for those that are taking on this challenge. For more info on nanowrimo, go to nanowrimo.org. You can sign up completely free, although they do use the event as a fundraiser for the Young Writers Program.

We have a ywp.nanowrimo.org group set up for those under 18 and educators. You can get the information for it at any of our meetings.

We had our interest meeting/ introduction this past Saturday but that does not mean you can't join us. Please, just come when you can.

The following meetups are on the calendar,

  • October 26, 12-2 pm Room 114, Planning Workshop
  • October 28, 5-7 pm Room 114, Planning Workshop
  • November 1, 5-8 pm Room 114, Kick Off
  • November 16, 12-6 pm Room 114, Recklessly Writing
  • November 30, 12-9 pm Room 114, Down to the Finish

In addition to the set meetups, the Jennie Woodworth Library is a Come Write In location and as long as we are open you can come in to the library and write your heart out. We do have FREE WiFi and with a library card you can check out one of our four computers.

The first week of December we will have our wrap up and awards celebration (Dec 2 or 7)
